ARTIST BIO

Annie Skakun has been a South Carolina resident since very late 2022.   Prior to living in the Carolinas, she lived in Louisiana where she was a resident artist at the Alexandria River Oaks Art Center and was heavily involved in the local art scene.  It was here she started to fine-tune and find her style, and very much enjoyed being one of 30 artists in residence.  She loved her daily studio time. 
For the last several years, Annie has focused on canvas.  She enjoys bold, bright artistic work with a hard edge.  She is an abstract painter-  some contemporary, some slightly controversial.   She is inspired by human moods, daily life, Mother Nature, and bright flowers.  She loves the bold blending of color in unrealistic images.  Her media of choice are watercolor inks and acrylic.
Annie has no formal art training, instead she earned a BA in psychology and then a Masters degree in Organizational Management.  She spent her working years in sales and marketing, keeping art as a hobby and always feeling the creative urge. At age 49, she decided to truly focus on what she loved, and began regularly creating.  

She prefers to make her own rules regarding color and style.  "There is no wrong in art.  Just do what you feel".
